When you Open Thunderbird for the first time, you will be prompted to add a new email account. The following steps will show how to add a GMAIL account.
Thunderbird will open with this Window.
Click on "Skip This..."
Enter your Name as you want others to see it.
Enter your GMAIL Address
Enter your GMAIL Password
Click on Continue
Check the information
Make sure IMAP is selected
Click on DONE.
After you click on Done - the system will check your password, then the window will close.
Welcome to Thunderbird.
In the following Steps, the Account Settings will be checked:
If all went well your GMAIL Folders will be linked to Thunderbird, as shown above in the Red Box.
These are the same folders you see when you log onto GMAIL on your Browser. These folders are not on your hard drive.
The Local Folders are Thunderbird folders actually on your computer.
To check the Account Settings. Select your Account Name (Email Address). In the Example shown above, I have selected "ASKBILL49@GMAIL.COM"
Next, Under Accounts, Click on VIEW SETTINGS FOR THIS ACCOUNT.
The following pictures will show you each of the account settings (Default Values): If you are having trouble with the account check the Server Settings and the Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings. They should be set as shown.
